Now whether money management and understanding household finances is more important than Pythagoras Theorem, French or the skills required to master a scientific calculator is a debate for people better educated than me! However my head, heart and stomach all tell me it should feature somewhere in schools and not a token that someone comes in and gives a talk for an hour. A considered programme around this topic as part of a wider life skills programme is needed and the majority of people who have experienced problem debt say that is what is needed too.
The results also show that more than half of the consumers surveyed for the report (51%) wish they had learned more about household finances in school, and 7 in 10 believe schools should teach children more about how to manage money.
